Canada’s 2012 Walk of Fame Festival @CWOfame kicked off at #Toronto City Hall at noon on Friday September 21 with the introduction of the members of the famous Team Canada 1972 Hockey Team – including Paul Henderson, Bob Clarke and Ken Dryden. The members came out on stage led by some pipers and then individually introduced to the swelling crowd. The hockey players gained national recognition with their victory over the Soviets during the 1972 Canada/Russia Friendship Series. This year is the 40th anniversary of that win. Mayor Rob Ford and his councilor brother put on Team Canada Jerseys and presented City of Toronto plaques to team members.
Jim Cuddy
The launch of the 3rd annual festival also included musical performances by Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo fame and his son with the Devin Cuddy Band on the concert stage in Nathan Phillips Square. The event was hosted by radio personality Ted Woloshyn. Suzie McNeil will perform followed by Tom Cochrane who will be singing with Red Rider tonite. On Sunday singer Jill Hennessy will be on stage. The festival runs until Sunday September 23.
There is also a synthetic ice surface at the Leafs Mobile Fan Zone and past members of the Canadian Woman’s Olympic Teams will be on hand. The fan zone has had Leaf alumni drop by and you will probably see the team mascot Carlton the Bear as well. There are also slots for free skates on the small rink (no ice is involved – it is a synthetic skating surface).
