You tend to notice the outdoor markets first. Row upon row of fresh, colourful vegetables and fruits that line the sidewalks. There are also stalls selling other items, like jewelry in the photo at top, so you can enjoy a leisurely stroll in the sun while getting some shopping done.
Graffiti tags and murals are all over the area, both along the main streets and also in the alleys behind the stores. The first time that I saw these starburst posters, below, was along Spadina and which use a collage of photos to make a face. I have since seen these at other locations along Dundas Street.
One of my favourite places to eat is in the small bakeries along the strip. They sell all manner of things baked into small buns - whether it is hot dogs or chicken, then you can have a bun for dessert. Find the place that sells three buns for a dollar, at the cash register they are always trying to up-sell you to the fruit tarts.
Restaurants and small supermarkets are also plentiful in the area - get your Dim Sum on!
I have even experienced a New Years celebration and the annual Chinatown Festival in the famous downtown hotspot.
The stores on the north edge of Chinatown on Spadina near Baldwin are in need of upgrades. Poser's rabbits are in evidence near the Baldwin Street entrance to Kensington Market.
