Acton #Leathertown Festival

#Halton Hills managed to forgot about the rain as people filled the pedestrian only #Acton downtown during the annual Leathertown Festival on Sunday August 12, 2012. The easy rain soon made way for a lovely afternoon of fun and entertainment on Mill Street during the festival which happens on the second Sunday of August each year. The young ladies helped run the games at the Superior Glove booth, in the photo at top.

Acton is well known for the leather industry and the Hide House which proclaims "It's worth the drive to Acton". Leather tanning in the small community beginning in 1842 which was taken over by the Beardmore Tanning Company in 1865. Today the Hide House continues its tradition of high quality and outstanding leather selection. The new Acton GO Transit train commuter train station is now being constructed in the parking lot adjacent to the store.

Umbrellas soon gave way to sunny smiles and I got a chance to meet some friends and check out some of the many vendors that lined the street. A couple of stages had some singers and other performers, while a kids action zone had some games ready to play for the younger set. The street fun starts at the intersection of Highway 7 and 25 in the small GTA town with a population of approximately 10,000 people.

The festival leads up to Ontario's fall Fair season - the Acton Fall Fair is from September 14-16, 2012. The Homecraft division had a great booth at the festival.

Local pop singing superstar put on a mini concert at the Roxy Cafe stage.

Nancy Wilkes owner of Acton Optical helps make all the local events a success.
