Hope Rising! with Annie Lennox

An inspirational night of music helped make the Stephen Lewis Foundation second #Toronto Hope Rising concert a success. Singing stars Annie Lennox, Sarah McLachlan and Angelique Kidjo performed in the annual fundraiser and celebration of the accomplishments of sub-Saharan African grassroots organizations in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The performers helped raise over $250,000 during the sold-out November 7, 2012 Roy Thomson Hall concert. The foundation also announced a $1 million lifetime donation from Stephen Lewis Foundation Board member Richard Phillips.

D’bi young and African grandmothers and girls also joined the night's all star lineup along with host Jian Ghomeshi  of the CBC 'Q' show hosting the evening of entertainment.

Stephen Lewis also had the pleasure of hearing the performers sing 'Happy Birthday' for his 75th birthday and said of the concert “I’m just thrilled by the performances from this amazing group of women, who generously came together to celebrate the real heroes of the pandemic – the courageous and indefatigable women of Africa who work with such decency and care to repair the fabric of their families and communities rent asunder by AIDS." The foundation helps people hardest hit by the AIDS pandemic in Africa who are living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
