The history of the ornge fiasco from the company's own press releases tells much of the story.
As of December 19, 2012 ornge has brought in a new boss: "The Board of Directors of Ornge, Ontario’s provider of air ambulance and related services, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andrew McCallum, M.D., F.R.C.P(C), as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ornge."
By December 23, 2011 the ornge empire is crumbling and an internal memo which identifies their three priorities: "First, and foremost, we will stay absolutely focused on that for which we are relied upon every single day: caring for patients. It is why we’re here and what we do. You have our full commitment that this will be our overarching priority. Second, we will significantly improve transparency and accountability. This begins today, as auditors from the Ministry of Finance begin their work at our office. We welcome their arrival. We've dedicated a team to work with the audit team to ensure they get everything they need to do their work." In January of 2012 the related ornge web of companies, including ornge Global Solutions, begin to be dismantled and a new interim CEO and board is put in place at the air ambulance company.
A story by CTV is fought by ornge and a news release states "On its 6:00 p.m. broadcast on September 6th, 2011, CTV Toronto aired a story with respect to Ornge’s service in Ontario. The story not only contained outdated and incorrect information but also omitted essential facts and was misleading. Ornge has notified CTV of these errors and has asked for a full apology from the network." Several days later CTV apologizes about their story about an auditor's review of ornge.
August 25, 2008 The new helicopters are purchased: "Ornge, Canada’s leading innovator in the field of transport medicine announced today it is purchasing 10 new AgustaWestland helicopters to replace the current aging fleet of Sikorsky S-76 helicopters owned and operated by Canadian Helicopters Limited (CHL). “When Ornge was appointed to take over operations of the air ambulance system in 2006, we
immediately began looking at ways to improve the medical transport system and to make it more sustainable and efficient” said Dr. Chris Mazza, president and CEO of Ornge. “These new medically equipped helicopters are the most technologically advanced rotor wing aircraft in the industry today and Ontarians will benefit greatly and be proud to call them their own” he added."
On August 28, 2006 " When appointed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to co-ordinate all aspects of the province’s transport medicine system in January 2006, Ornge recognized the need to create a unique brand identity. “Orange is a heritage colour of our aircraft, so we decided that we wanted to make it official, said Dr. Mazza at the announcement."
July 20, 2005: McGuinty's provincial government announces the new corporation: "The minister (George Smitherman) also introduced Dr. Chris Mazza as CEO of the non-profit Ontario Air Ambulance Services Corporation. "Over more than a quarter of a century Ontario's Air Ambulance program has grown to become one of the largest and most sophisticated in the world," Dr. Mazza said."
